About Chris

Chris Yakabouski is a devoted husband, father, and small business owner. Chris and his wife Melissa live in the Breezewood subdivision with their two daughters. Chris is a long time Spotsylvania resident having moved to the county over 25 years ago. Chris attended Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in political science.

Chris is a sitting member of the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors having been elected in 2004 to represent the Battlefield district. He was an active member of the board holding the position of Vice Chairman and Chairman. Chris' successful term on the Board of Supervisors included many initiatives including expansion of the Economic Development Department and creation of a business outreach position. He was also the leading voice for prioritizing the county budget making sure that education and public safety were the top two budget priorities.

During Chris' term, commercial development greatly expanded with both, Cosner's Corner and the Harrison Road Shopping Center projects being approved. Along with those commercial developments came millions of dollars in road improvements, the most in a four year period in recent history.

Jobs were also created in Spotsylvania County. One of the highlights of this effort was a new hospital, The Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. Chris was one of the first members of the hospitals advisory board.

Under Chris' leadership, the education budget increased every year, which included raising teacher's salaries for the first time in many years. The Fire and Rescue budget was greatly expanded with millions of dollars added for additional staff and training for our volunteer fire and rescue personnel. These improvements were accomplished without raising the tax rate.

Chris also served on many boards and commissions, both regionally and in Spotsylvania County. They include:

  • › Chairman - Economic Development and Tourism Sub-Committee
  • › George Washington Regional Planning Area
  • › Rappahannock River Basin Commission
  • › Courthouse Tourism and Special Events Committee
  • › Minority Affairs Committee
  • › Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center Advisory Committee
  • › Rappahannock Area Development Commission (RADCO)
